Spring is on its way in Murfreesboro, TN

This week may not have felt like it but, spring is soon to be on its way here in Murfreesboro, TN. I can't wait either!! Until then I am just in love with my Daffodils that are STILL in bloom!!! Of course you never know how they will unfold, since cold stratification for each bulb can be different for many years. It takes 3-4 years before they get predictable.

So until then I will share some of just the field that I am still in love with!

And my beautiful daughter which I had to beg for her to stand out there for 5 mins. But I had not expectation that the blooms would line up with the blooming of my Easter Red Bud trees along my wooded area tree line but, it makes my heart super happy! Of course it was super sunny at the "only time " she had so we got creative with the pose. With my own kids I have to usually make due with what they give me.

Also enjoy some IPHONE images of my unique varieties that were planted in some special areas of my yard. I hope to transplant them to this field this fall as well as add more, about 1000 each year for the next 5 years, you gotta have goals!!

And a nice over view of the entire area I have planted at this time. I used an auger to drill holes around 10 inches wide, not to deep, then I placed 8-10 bulbs in each hole. I picked random locations in hope to make it look more "natural" of course these bulbs will multiply over the next couple of years so as I am planting I will also be getting more and more as they do their thing.

Its hard to believe that is 1000 bulbs, but its been a beautiful sight from my greenhouse and my backdoor for the last 2 weeks. The blooms even survived this 24 temp drop the other night!

I'll have to add a photo here of my favorite variety once I get a few of them in bloom, but until then a fun fact about Daffodils when you cut them they release a toxin that can kill other flower in the same vase. Make sure to only put Daffodils in the vase or wait a day before combining them in a flower combo.

Also, if you do choose to pick a few, remember not to hand them to small children because that same toxin can cause a mild reaction in humans also!
